| Well, in last weeks Rambling I mentioned the redemption of Peter Arnett via his war coverage for NBC and MSNBC. Seems I spoke too soon, because this week Arnett was fired by the network for an interview he did with Iraqi State Television in which he said that the Coalition had blown the first phase of the war. Judging by the high ratings of FOX News war coverage we know that most people would rather avoid objective coverage just as long as it favors the right side. And while the war is far from over, there is one indication that things are looking better in Iraq. Thats right, Geraldo Rivera might be kicked out of Iraq for revealing the location of the troops he was traveling with. Being that he works for FOX, how long will we have to wait until Geraldo finally appears on Celebrity Boxing? Hopefully its soon and hopefully hes either fighting Joan Rivers or Carrot Top. But what this really means is that the media can only go so long before making themselves into the story. Then again, Id rather be hearing the Mobius strip of media analysis of their own war coverage than hear another story about Coalition deaths caused by malfunctioning equipment or human error. Like the pilots who touched down on an aircraft carrier and then landed in the sea. Or how about the helicopters that malfunctioned, killing everyone aboard? Or the guy who drove a tank off a bridge, drowning the other two soldiers who were also in the tank. While I mourn the deaths of any of our soldiers in the Middle East, Im guessing none of the survivors of these incidents will have much of a career in the military after their mishaps. Then again, the last guy could very well run as successful campaign for Senator from Massachusetts. I dont mean to make light of tragedy, though, well . . . this one anyway . . . but I think Sgt. Phil Esterhaus of the Hill Street police station said it best when he said, And hey, lets be careful out there. Yet even in the face of war, our celebrities are willing to open their lives up to help make ours a little lighter. Like Hugh Grant, who told Vanity Fair magazine that he hates acting. I gotta say I agree I also hate Hugh Grants acting. And Lisa Marie Presley, who is now saying that she isnt proud about her marriage to Michael Jackson. She wanted to explain herself further, but Scientologys lawyers wouldnt let her. But if that doesnt soothe what ails ya, we can hope that today, April Fools Day, the White House will announce what many of us already suspect - that the Bush Presidency is a joke. A really bad one, but a joke nonetheless. For really good jokes, on the other hand, you should come to F2 at 143 N. La Brea Ave. Los Angeles, CA 90036 (323) 938-2504 (Between Beverly and First) above Farfalla, or Giancarlo whatever its called now TOMORROW NIGHT, WEDNESDAY APRIL 2nd at 8PM when DAVID ROBINSON performs a rousing set of comedy and comedic music as part of an evening of comedy. And comedic music, I guess. Theres free parking available on the street, or you can take advantage of the valet parking just past the ACME Comedy Theater, which is right next door to Farfalla. Unless its next to Giancarlo. Wherever it is, be there! See you tomorrow! Vaya con Carne David |
